To usher in the Year of the Ox, our students and teachers from Kinderland celebrated the Chinese New Year with exciting performances and fun activities.

Our young ones at Yio Chu Kang, Choa Chu Kang, Sengkang, Woodlands Civic Centre and Woodlands Mart put up spectacular Lion Dance performances for their friends and teachers. All of them practised diligently by learning how to prance with the lion and dragon. Our students at Kinderland Academy @ Yio Chu Kang even practised the ‘Cai Qing’ ritual (picking the greens). At Kinderland Academy, apart from Lion Dance, our children put on a Dragon dance performance and went around the school to wish blessings upon everyone.

K2 students of Kinderland Academy @ Yio Chu Kang put on a rousing performance of Lion and Dragon Dance.

Besides putting up lively performances, our children also learned about Chinese culture and explored the traditions of the festival. For instance, they learned various Chinese auspicious words and the significance of red colour for the festival.

Our students learned the correct way to receive red packets through dramatisation.

They also learned how to give and receive oranges from one another.

Some of them also had the opportunity to participate in hands-on activities such as making lanterns out of red packets and decorations like flowers, couplets, ox and craftwork using paint, coloured paper and other materials. Our students at Marine Parade even baked pineapple tarts from scratch!

As part of the annual festive traditions, our students at Sengkang went on a mini school excursion. They visited 8 friendly neighbours in the vicinity. They performed a Lion Dance and gave presents to them. It livened up the atmosphere and brought a lot of smiles and laughter to everyone.

After the celebrations, our children brought home their decorative works and baked pineapple tarts to share with their parents. They had a fun-filled experience learning about the Chinese festival and crafting at Kinderland!
