Kinderland is delighted to congratulate Ms Zheng Shiqun, a teacher from Kinderland Preschool @ Sengkang, for securing one of the top 14 spots in the Thumbs Up Little Junior 2023 Children’s Song Competition. This is a significant achievement as it marked Kinderland’s first time participation into the competition.
The competition aims to foster creativity in children’s songwriting that reflects local life and engages preschool children with the Chinese language. This year’s themes included “My Kindergarten,” “Getting Outdoors,” and “Environmental Protection.”
The winning entry, “天晴了,” was a collaborative effort between Ms Zheng and our school’s principal, Ms Valerie Gan. Ms Zheng, who is currently pursuing a degree in Chinese Early Childhood Education, participated in the competition after learning about it from her lecturer. She was overjoyed when one of her entries made it to the finals. Grateful for Ms Gan’s support, Ms Zheng believes their song will help children appreciate the depth and varied meanings of song lyrics, reflecting the fresh start that comes after a rainfall.
The full video of the competition will be shared on the “Thumbs Up” Facebook page at 2.00pm on July 29 (Saturday). The competition, an initiative by Thumbs Up Little Junior, a children’s newspaper under Lianhe Zaobao from Singapore Press Holdings (SPH), is supported by the Lee Kuan Yew Fund for Bilingualism.
