SPORTS FIESTA – HIGHLIGHT OF KINDERLAND KINDERFIT PROGRAMME

After a three-year hiatus due to the Covid pandemic, Kinderland’s Sports Fiesta made a comeback on 7 October 2023. The inaugural Sports Fiesta took place in 2008 and has since been the annual spotlight of our KinderFit programme which is available to all our pre-schoolers.

KinderFit is more than just about physical movement. It is designed to nurture an appreciation for regular exercise, sports, cardio-fitness and healthy eating habits. More than that, it lays the foundation for inculcating crucial life skills. Aspects such as concentration, resilience, discipline, and teamwork are what we aim to foster in our young learners.

This year’s event saw enthusiastic participation, with over 200 children and 400 parents in attendance. It was an honour to have Mr. Simon Lim, Group Director and Outreach from Singapore’s Health Promotion Board (HPB) among our esteemed guests.

Dr. Carol Loy, our Director of Curriculum, encapsulated the essence of the day in her address. She stated, “Today’s festivities are not just about who wins first place. Indeed, our Sports Day is an important moment to foster values such as perseverance – never giving up in the face of adversity, dedication and teamwork — values that are cherished at Kinderland.”

A momentous highlight was the performance by Singapore’s first and only preschool Marching Band from Kinderland Academy @ Yio Chu Kang. This was paired with the Colour Guard performance by children from Kinderland Preschool @ Marine Parade, demonstrating their rhythm and coordination. A proud parent shared, “The children were absolutely amazing! And all the staff did such a fantastic job teaching the children how to play, march and do formations all at the same time. I am super impressed with the teamwork from teachers and students.”

The day was not just about sports and competition. Emphasising the importance of family bonding, the activities mirrored the MOVE IT Active Family Programme from Singapore’s HPB. Parents eagerly anticipated the parent-child games, cherishing those moments of joy with their little ones.

One segment that stood out was the preschool gymnastic formations. Guided by our JACPA instructors, Ms. Motoyama Misuzu and Mr. Sakurai Shun, the children showcased varied formations such as airplanes, sushi, and rockets. JACPA is Japan’s largest physical education provider for preschoolers.

In activities like the ‘three-legged race’ and ‘loggers’, parents and staff came together, reinforcing our belief in the importance of the parent-staff-child bond. This tripartite relationship serves as a cornerstone for a fulfilling learning experience at Kinderland.

We thank all parents, children and teachers for making our Sports Fiesta a rousing success. We look forward to seeing all of you at next year’s edition!
