Patricia Tay: A Legacy of Passion and Purpose

For Ms Patricia Tay (Pat), early childhood education began with a simple job listing. Over two decades later, it became her calling and legacy. Since joining Kinderland in 2004, Pat has grown from a young preschool teacher into a respected Cluster Principal. She shapes not just young children but also the educators who guide them.
Her journey with Kinderland is one of remarkable growth, underpinned by unwavering passion. She believes in the power of meaningful relationships — with children, families, and fellow educators.
From Teacher to Leader
“I have been with Kinderland for more than 20 years! How time flies,” Pat said with a smile. “I started as a preschool teacher, was offered the role of Vice Principal, then promoted to Principal, Senior Principal, and now Cluster Principal.”
Today, Pat supports multiple centres, collaborating closely with centre leaders. She also spearheads major projects such as concerts, SPARK accreditation, and holiday programmes. Her leadership is grounded in experience and driven by heart.
A Journey That Grew with Love
Pat entered early childhood education in her twenties, not by grand design but by curiosity. “I was so young. I saw an advertisement in the newspaper for a preschool teacher at a nearby centre and just went for it,” she recalls.
What started as a job soon transformed into something deeper. “After being in the job, I started falling in love with the children and the everyday joy they bring me. That is what kept me going.”
The decision to join Kinderland specifically was influenced by someone close to home. “My sister was already teaching at Kinderland, and she became my sounding board. Eventually, I followed her — and I have never looked back.”
Why Stay All These Years?
Over two decades in the same organisation is rare, but for Pat, the reason is simple: Kinderland feels like home.
“There is something new every day — never a dull moment. I get to meet like-minded colleagues who are equally if not more passionate and dedicated in caring for our young. We all want only the best for the children, and being in such a positive environment makes a stark difference in my personal growth too,” she shares.
“There was once when I considered leaving, but I eventually stayed, because I knew this was where I truly belonged. Because I believe only with my positive team can we, educators, groom confident leaders of tomorrow.”
Living Kinderland’s Values
What has kept Pat grounded all these years is the alignment between Kinderland’s values and her personal beliefs.
“There is so much respect here — for children, for families, and for one another,” she says. “Children are seen as curious individuals. We celebrate their ideas and help them flourish individually with our Kinderland Integrated Curriculum, which supports all areas of development. We nurture our children to uncover their unique and fullest potential by working collaboratively with parents.”
With the support of curriculum specialists and a thoughtful planned classroom environment, children are nurtured to grow confidently, creatively, and holistically.
Growing as a Professional, Growing as a Person
Pat credits Kinderland not only for her professional development but also for shaping her.
“I have learned to work with people of different personalities, to lead with empathy, and to always focus on our shared goal — giving our best to the children,” she says.
“Seeing children grow in confidence, and watching our educators find joy and fulfilment in their work — these moments fuel my passion and remind me why I do what I do.”
A Memory to Hold Forever

A visit from our Woodlands Mart alumni brightens Ms Pat’s day
Out of countless meaningful moments, one encounter remains especially close to Pat’s heart.
“I was at Kinderland Preschool @ Woodlands Mart when I noticed a young lady looking in through the glass door. I approached her and asked if she needed help. She replied, ‘I’m here to visit my Alma mater. Are you Teacher Pat?’”
“She was one of my students — from almost 20 years ago! We took a walk down memory lane together. I smiled for days after that knowing that my quiet work has left a positive impact on a once-young life. It reminded me that everything we do, even if unseen in the moment, leaves a lasting impact.”
Teach with Passion, Inspire the Next Generation

For Pat, teaching has never been just about lessons or routines. It is about giving a part of herself to every child she meets — through patience, encouragement, and genuine care. She believes that passion is what transforms teaching from a job into a journey of purpose.
Over the years at Kinderland, Pat has seen how children flourish when they feel supported and understood. She has also witnessed how young educators grow when guided with empathy and trust. To her, both are deeply connected — when teachers teach with passion, they not only nurture confident children but also inspire future educators to carry the flame forward.
As Pat often reminds her colleagues, the influence of a teacher goes far beyond the classroom. It shapes lives, creates memories, and plants seeds of inspiration that last long after the school years.
