700 preschoolers from Kinderland, NurtureStars and ELFA marked the nation’s celebration of 50 years of National Service in a combined effort through the simple gesture – a salute. For the first time, preschoolers from the three preschools – members of Crestar Education Group – gathered at the largest preschool sports meet to celebrate NS50 through sports, to inculcate in children values such as perseverance, discipline and teamwork.

This was done as part of SAFRA’s campaign, “We Salute Our NSmen” to gather 50,000 salutes from the community. In all, more than 1,500 preschoolers, parents and teachers acknowledged the contributions of National Service men, by joining in the salute.

Sports On 2017 opened in style with a performance by Singapore’s first and only preschool marching preschool band and an Olympic-style torch relay around the stadium. Children and their parents then went on to compete in various engaging, National Service-inspired sports activities.

It is indeed endearing to see little ones donning army wear and taking part in obstacle courses.

Through the event, not only did the children get to have a good cardio workout, they also learnt various skills and values like fundamental movement skills, teamwork, perseverance and sportsmanship. At the same time, parents and children had a good bonding session.

At the end of the day, every child was a winner as they had done their best for the activities and participated cheerfully.

It was indeed a fulfilling day for all who took part in Sports On!
